Miss Russia : Info

Miss Russia is the annual national beauty pageant of Russia that selects representatives of Russia to Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International pageant. The pageant was established in the year 1992. Ever since commencement, the pageant has been held annually except in the years 1994, 2000 and 2008, when no pageant was held.

Julia Kourotchkina was the winner of Miss Russia 1992, the first edition of Miss Russia pageant. She went on to represent Russia at Miss World 1992 pageant, and Russia made an emphatic debut at Miss World 1992 pageant as Julia was crowned Miss World 1992.

In 1993, Russia made its debut at Miss International pageant, followed by starting representation at Miss Universe next year.

Since 2007, the winner of Miss Russia is being sent to both Miss Universe and Miss World. If the winner is unable to represent for any reason, the first runner up is sent in lieu. Till date, Russia has won three major international titles - Miss World 1992, Miss Universe 2002 (the winner however was later dethroned and Panama's Justine Pasek, the first runner-up, was crowned instead) and Miss World 2008.

In the year 2009, Russia also made its debut at Miss Supranational pageant. The representative of Russia for Miss Supranational is selected either by Miss Russia Organization from their runners-up or by Russian Model agency.

In the year 2014, Russia finally entered Miss Grand International pageant. The representative of Russia for Miss Grand International is either selected by Miss Russia Organization from their runners-up or by Russian Model agency. The representative from Russia then competes at Miss Grand International.
