Miss Universe 2014 : Info

Miss Universe 2014, the 63rd edition of the Miss Universe pageant was held on 25 January 2015 at U.S. Century Bank Arena at Florida International University in Doral, Miami, Florida, USA. Miss Universe is one of the four International pageants which form the Big Four pageants. A total of Eighty Nine (88) contestants from across the globe  competed to become the next Miss Universe. These contestants were winners of their respective country’s national pageant and were chosen to represent their nation at the Miss Universe pageant.

Gabriela Isler, the reigning Miss Universe, from Venezuela crowned Paulina Vega Dieppa from Colombia as her successor on the final night of the gala event. This year a new crown was introduced and revealed on the final night of the event.

The city of Doral in north-central Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, played host to Eighty Eight beautiful contestants as the journey to the coveted title began. Doral is renowned for its progressive municipal government that promotes environmentally sustainable policies, citizen involvement, beautifully maintained streetscapes, and rich green spaces. The venue for the event was Florida International University. It is a public research university with colleges and schools that offers more than 180 bachelor’s, master's and doctoral programs in fields such as engineering, international relations, architecture, law and medicine.

Miss Universe 2014 had seen some controversies even before commencing, the negotiations to host the Miss Universe 2014 got delayed and finally Miami was chosen. This was the first year that the pageant skips a year since its commencement. It was still called the Miss Universe 2014 pageant, and the Miss Universe 2015 edition will be held later in the same year.

The Miss Universe pageant indulges in various charitable works, The Miss Universe Organization and Dutch development agency, Cordaid, have partnered to create a global fund that will raise awareness and money for regions of the Philippines struggling to recover in the wake of typhoon Yoland.

The Miss Universe 2014 commenced with the arrival of the beautiful contestants in the first week of January. The ladies participated in various pre pageant activities and competed in the preliminary competitions. The lovely contestants also participated in the national costume competition where each one of them got a chance to display their respective countries culture. The event concluded with the crowning of Paulina Vega from Colombia, on January 25, 2015, the final night by the Miss Universe 2013, Gabriela Isler.
