Remember how Mary Jean Lastimosa Miss Universe Philippines 2014 faced criticism over the gown that she chose to wear at the Miss Universe 2014 finals? And how her supporters blamed her outfits for the failure of the Philippines in the 63rd Miss Universe pageant? Well MJ sure came out and spoke in favour of her white Alfredo Barrazza (Colombian Designer) gown, but looks like the evening gown debacle was not gulped down well by many and a new law has been stimulated by that in Philippines.
Philippines woke up with the news that will be a welcome change for the Filipino pageant lovers. According to sources, a bill filed by Eric L. Olivarez, Parañaque City Rep. requires the involvement of Filipino fashion designers for the creation of costumes and gowns for Filipino beauty queens, under House Bill 5691 - known as the "Filipino Fashion Designers for Filipino Beauty Pageants Contestants Act of 2015". Talking about the Bill Olivarez added "foreign fashion designers can assist the Filipino fashion designer in the selection of materials to be used for the finished products to conform to factors such as age, gender, and physical status of the Filipino contestants." However, he made it clear that "the foreign fashion designers creating the costumes or dresses should be working as a team and that the team is headed by a Filipino fashion designer."

This might be great news for all the pageant lovers and fans in Philippines who have been insisting on introducing Filipino designed costumes and gowns at international pageants. This is also an opportunity for the Filipino designers to showcase their talent and flair to the world of beauty pageants. Will this change be the wind of welcome change for Philippines in the international pageants? That will be interesting to watch!!
