Miss Universe Japan 2015 that was held on March 12’ 2015 is gathering all sorts of controversies post its crowning the Miss Universe Japan 2015, Ariana Miyamoto. Her non-Japanese looks have provoked uproar among the social networking sites all over the world now. Ariana was born and brought up in Nagasaki to a Japanese mother and an African-American father and speaks Japanese as her first language. However, beauty pageant fans are finding it difficult to gulp it in, as according to them the winner should have been someone who is entirely Japanese.

20 years old Ariana, became the first ever mixed race beauty to win the pageant. However, the success came at quite a cost for this beauty. Ever since her crowning, the beauty has been facing all sorts of ridicule and criticism.

I saw the result of Miss Universe Japan. My honest feeling was: does it make sense that a foreigner represents Japan?" wrote a Twitter user.

Miss Universe Japan is not Japan,” read another tweet.

“Even though she’s Miss Universe Japan, her face is foreign no matter how you look at it!” another said.

And a third user tweeted: “Beauty contest. Miss Universe Japan is….wha? What kind of person? She’s ….not…..Japanese…right?

Ariana Miyamoto grew up in the city of Sasebo near a major US naval base and completed her high school from US. This has created a hullabaloo among the people, and many think that all these factors make her unfit to represent the nation at any international pageant. Many of the highest-rated comments about Miyamoto on the Japanese site Girls Channel said that they wanted a more ‘Japanese’ contestant to represent Japan.

However not everyone thinks this way, there have been few voices in support of the winner as well. Supporters said that the only thing that matters is whether or not she is a citizen of the country and loves the country and not whether she looks Japanese or otherwise. “Criticizing the selection because she wasn’t ‘Japanese’ enough was ‘pathetic’ and outdated thinking.” said many.
The coveted crown of Miss Universe Japan 2015 is turning out to be a crown of thorns for Ariana it seems. Let’s see how the beauty copes up with the allegations and criticism.
