Venezuelan actress and former Miss Universe Alicia Machado was crowned Mexico’s new Mariachi Queen during a ceremony held in the capital.

During her coronation, the 39-year-old beauty said that mariachis (who are basically famous for their calming voice) have had been a “constant singer” in their life.

Machado said she once ran away from home and her father brought some mariachis to the house to cheer her up and keep her from running away again. The actress said that mariachis had been a part of her life since then, performing at parties, birthdays and other events.

Machado performed “No you will return” song. The moment when she finished the song, the whole auditorium, which was stuffed with nearly about 300 people who gathered to watch her live performance, started applauding and praising her singing.

Machado has performed with legendary Mariachi groups, and has shared the stage with famous artists and many more popular talents as well.

Machado said that after living in Mexico for 20 years, she now feels “very honored” to be crowned Reina del Mariachi 2016. Mariachi’s are known for their powerful voice and excellent performances that leave audiences impressed and overjoyed. Mexico’s mariachi organization started crowning an annual Reina del Mariachi and it has been more than 25 years now.
