The beauty pageant contestant, Mary Antoinette Acedo,who died after overconsumption of slimming pills, was declared the winner of the Miss Dapitan 2015 pageant held on July 23’ 2015. According to the pageant organizer, Jason Selves, Miss Dapitan 2015 title was a tribute to the late contestant.

"The committee decided to have a tribute to Miss Maan Acedo, obviously she died, one of the reason of that is the preparation for Miss Dapitan," Selves added. The other contestants also agreed with the decision of the organisers. "It was really okay for me because I think that it was a way of paying tribute to her since she passed away," said Zaira Claine Gudmalin, Miss Dapitan 2015 first runner-up.

19 year old Mary Antoniette Acedo hailing from Roxas was in the hospital for five days and died after suffering from stomachache, diarrhea and experiencing vomiting, as per investigation. The victim's mother said Acedo had been taking slimming pills she bought online in preparation for the pageant.
