Former Miss World Megan Young, who was the host of the 71st Miss World, landed in trouble at the finale of the Miss World pageant held in Mumbai, India this weekend. She faced criticism after she was slammed for fixing Lesego Chombo’s, the official representative of Botswana, hair during the Q/A portion.

With all the criticism she faced, Megan released a statement through her facebook page as she pointed out that she was just offering a helping hand but failed to see the bigger picture. “Last night during the final, I fixed Lesego Chombo’s (Miss Botswana) hair on stage. I wanted to offer a helping hand but I failed to oversee the bigger picture. This could have caused distress during that moment and I have been made aware that culturally, this is unacceptable”, she wrote.

“We have spoken privately last night at the hotel and I have apologized to Lesego in private. To those who witnessed the incident, I also want to apologize for any discomfort or confusion my actions may have caused. It was a thoughtless and disrespectful act, and I take full responsibility for it. I assure you that it was not my intention to invade personal space or make anyone feel uncomfortable. I deeply regret my actions and will strive to be more mindful and respectful in the future”, she added.

Meanwhile, Lesego also appealed to her country people and her fans to be kind and not to spread hate on other people. Afterall, being kind is one of the most essential qualities of a beauty queen. While the pageant fans are quite critical when it comes to supporting their favourites, one should always look at the intention first before reacting.

What do you think of the whole debacle?
