On 8th December 2018, the United States saw the crowning of Cordelia Cranshaw as the new Miss District Of Columbia USA 2019. She will now be representing the state of District of Columbia. in Miss USA 2019 to be held sometimes next year. If Cordelia manages to win the national pageant, she will have earned the right to represent the United States in Miss Universe 2019 to be held next year.
Cordelia is 26 years of age, and it is safe to say that she completely deserved to win the crown, because not only is she the epitome of American beauty, she is also hardworking and passionate, overcoming many hardships throughout her life. Cordelia was crowned by Miss District Of Columbia USA 2018 Bryce Armstrong, who competed in Miss USA 2018, but was unable to secure a position for the District of Columbia during the finale.
Cordelia did her schooling from West Potomac High, then went on to complete her graduation from Old Dominion University, from where she passed out in the year 2014. Cordelia then did an Advance Standing Social Work program, masters in social work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is currently working as an education specialist at D.C. Child and Family Services. Cordelia is also the founder, president and CEO of Acts of Random Kindness (ARK), that assists the youth who are deemed “at risk” to take them beyond their struggles.
As impressive as Cordelia’s schooling and its outcome might be, she did not have it easy during her childhood with her mother in prison and her father being a struggling alcoholic. This humble soul was in the foster care system until she was 21 years of age. But she did not the judicial system of America become a hindrance for her growth as she started participating in pageants since 2009.
In the years 2015 and 2016, Cordelia tried her hand for the title that she currently holds but failed. She then continued to work harder and participated in the years 2017 and 2018 and was awarded the positions of 4th runner-up both times. Cordelia now feels proud that her hardworking and perseverance has brought her this far along and she aims at making an even more concrete mark during the finale of Miss USA 2019.
