The reigning Miss Earth Angelia Gabrena Ong reached Sri Lanka on 26th August 2016. Angelia is in Sri Lanka on a special invitation by TV Derana and the beauty queen will grace the finals of Miss Earth Sri Lanka 2016 scheduled to be held on 3ist August at Citrus, Waskaduwa. The second runner-up of Miss Earth 2015, Brittany Payne will also be present at the event.
26 years old Angelia is a Filipino model and beauty who was crowned Miss Earth Philippined 2015. Later she represented her country and was crowned as Miss Earth 2015 held at Marx Halle, Vienna, Austria on December 5, 2015 and was crowned by her predecessor Jamie Herrell, also from the Philippines.
Apart from attending the gala finale of Miss Earth Sri Lanka 2016, Angelia will also engage in various environmental projects, including the launching of Manusath Derana Nature Force project, where there would be a pledge and an initiative to plant one million trees in the country. The project will be alunched on 28th August 2016 and 300 sandalwood plants will be planted on initial basis.
There are a total of 12 finalists competing for the title of Miss Earth Sri Lanka 2016, and only one of them will earn the right to be called Sri Lanka at the Miss Earth 2016 pageant.
