The contestants of Miss Earth 2016 beauty pageant were heartily welcomed by the people of the Iligan city of Philippines, where they went on the eco-tourism tour of the country, and to promote the Miss Earth organisation’s policy of protecting Mother Earth.

Miss Earth is an annual beauty pageant that aims at spreading environmental consciousness through the delegates from different countries by promoting the message of Restoration and Reforestation. It encourages people to adapt the policy of 5Rs, namely Rethink, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, and Respect, to minimize carbon footprints.

The candidates were greeted by the Iligan city councillor as well as mayor at a press conference held at the St. Michael's College in Iligan. Both delivered speeches to welcome the beautiful delegates. Later on, the delegates answered the questions of the press, related to their policies, and opinions about climate changes, its hazards, and ways to protect the Earth.

The contestants posed for a bikini photo shoot as well at an exotic location in the city of waterfalls. Iligan’s gorgeous natural beauty and the humility of the people impressed the candidates, who said that they enjoyed being in the city more than anything.

The girls had a chance to connect with the cultural heritage as well as the art and traditional richness of the city. They enjoyed dances and performances by renowned artists of the city and even shook a leg on the indigenous tunes.
