Miss Earth Guyana is an annual national pageant to determine a representative of Guyana for the international pageant, Miss Earth, an environment themed beauty pageant that promotes environmental awareness.
The last Miss Earth Guyana pageant was held in 2010 when Soyini Fraser was crowned as queen but a representative was sent up for the international pageant as recent as 2014. It was local belle, Stacy Ramcharran who took the crown back then, but after the franchise was lost one year later, it was not possible to choose another girl. As such she remains the reigning Miss Earth Guyana; that is until the grand coronation of is Miss Earth Guyana 2018.
Serving as the Managing Executive for the Miss Earth Guyana Organisation is Dr. Omesh Balmacoon, who pointed out that the girls will ultimately be vying for a pageant which attracts contestants from over 100 countries. He highlighted that the 16-year-old event is one that raises awareness about the environment and health, and essentially gives the delegates the opportunity to become advocates for the environment.

The Miss Earth Guyana franchise committee according to its Assistant National Director, Dr. Latoya Gooding, will place great focus on the “Beauties For A Cause” segment. This, she disclosed, will give the contestants the opportunity to choose their own environmental cause but since 95% of all cancers are caused by environmental factors, they will have to find some way of relating the two issues and how active change can be brought about. In a statement made by Dr. Gooding, "this is something that has not been done thus far on the international stage so we are trying to see how strong we can build this idea and possibly take the world stage by storm." She continued by acknowledging and expressing gratitude to Demerara Bakery and their brand DemBake for being the official sponsor for the “Beauties For A Cause” aspect.
The registrations for Miss earth Guyana 2018 are now open.
As part of the segment, the girls will be eligible for eco-tours and be integrally involved in mangrove restoration and education activities. “This will be a complete package, so this pageant is not just about the beauty aspect,” said Dr. Gooding.
The Miss Earth International Pageant is said to be among the top three in the world and is gaining popularity since more than 100 countries are expected to participate this year. Its ‘Beauty For A Cause’ campaign which focuses primarily on raising awareness across the globe is believed to be one of the main reasons the pageant has gained such status.
