The third edition of Miss Earth Uganda has been launched with a total of fourteen contestants vying for the title of Miss Earth Uganda 2017. The fourteen beauties have been selected from 14 different districts of Uganda - Adjumani, Arua, Gulu, Iganga, Jinja, Kampala, Lira, Luwero, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Pakwach, Soroti, Tororo, and Wakiso.
The contestants will participate in two weeks’ boot camp where they will be trained on environmental issues, personal, onstage presentation and public speech. Also, the contestants will get involved in different humanitarian and environmental causes.
The winner will be crowned at the conclusion of the grand finale on 25th of August 2017 at Nanjing Restaurant & Motel, Kololo. Last year, Priscilla Achieng was crowned Miss Earth Uganda 2016 and represented Uganda in Miss Earth 2016 pageant. She will now pass on her reign and the title to one of the fourteen beauties at the conclusion of the grand finale of Miss Earth Uganda 2017.
According to Victoria Nabagereka, the National Director of Miss Earth Uganda, the pageant is meant for educating and encouraging masses to conserve the environment.
“Our environment is facing heavy degradation and if nothing is done about it, the future is gloom. This is why we came out with this initiative to educate masses about environment conservation,” she said.
The winner of miss earth Uganda will serve as an ambassador to environmental protection campaigns in the country. Miss Earth Uganda 2017 will also represent Uganda in Miss Earth 2017 which will be held at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines on 4th November 2017.
