Bhasha Mukherjee who was crowned Miss England 2019 on 2nd August 2019 held in Newcastle upon Tyne and went onto represent England at Miss World 2019 and was placed at Top 40. Bhasha has returned to the United Kingdom from overseas charity work to continue her career as a doctor amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The diva who earned her degree in Bachelor of Science in medical sciences and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from University of Nottingham has returned to her country and after 14-days of quarantine will report back to her duties. The diva took a little break as a junior doctor specializing in respiratory medicine before competing in the Miss World pageant on behalf of England in December 2019.
Bhasha was invited by various countries’ government to be an ambassador for several charities and she decided to hang her doctor duties and focus on humanitarian work until August this year. "I was invited to Africa, to Turkey, then to India, Pakistan and several other Asian countries to be an ambassador for various charity work," she stated.
However, four weeks into her ambassadorship in India on behalf of Coventry Mercia Lions Club, where she donated stationery to schools and gave money to a home for abandoned girls, news broke that COVID-19 was spreading rapidly back home in the United Kingdom. The diva stated that her colleagues contacted her and explained her the situation worsening in the country and that’s when she decided to hang up her crown for now and return to work as she felt she needed to be more hands-on during the pandemic.
“When you are doing all this humanitarian work abroad, you’re still expected to put the crown on, get ready…look pretty. I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work. I felt a sense of, this is what I’d got this degree for and what better time to be part of this sector than now? It was incredible the way the whole world was celebrating all key workers, and I wanted to be one of those, and I knew I could help.” She stated.
Mukherjee returned to England on 6th April 2020 but still has to self-isolate for about two weeks before she can return to work as a doctor at the Pilgrim Hospital, where it’s all hands-on deck, according to the pageant queen. She specialises in respiratory medicine.
We salute the spirit of Bhasha Mukherjee for her desire to return to work to help the other doctors and hospital staff to fight covid19.
