The organization of Miss Kenya appointed Irene Ng'endo Mukii as the new Miss Grand Kenya 2020 and will represent the country at Miss Grand International 2020 scheduled to take place on 27th March 2021 in Thailand. She is excited to take over the crown duties to represent the country at Miss Grand International 2020.

Irene is a Mathematics and Computer Science student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is an international model who describes herself as a woman of faith and is driven to look within for the solutions to humanity and discover what her contributions can be.

The diva started her career in pageantry in 2018 when she won Miss Jkuat and went onto represent the country at Miss Progress International. She later represented Kenya at Miss Africa Calabar in Nigeria and brought the crown home. She believes that pageantry avails a platform to be heard more and to participate in positive social change and the reason she decided to participate in pageants was that she was hooked onto the challenging part of the pageants as she feels that these challenges help the youth to bring in the change they want to see in the world.

Irene further added, “On top of that it allows one to dive deep into a journey of self-discovery and awareness because before you can confidently talk to thousands of people you have to know who you are and what you stand for. I would personally encourage everyone to try out a pageant if they are looking to know themselves better to understand their purpose and to break free from a small mindset.”

As Miss Africa 2020, she was asked her view on Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi’s decision to flaunt her natural hair. Irene mentioned that representation of the African person is so little that young African children need to see someone like them achieving their dreams and being powerful. She lastly added, “In terms of beauty, we need to embrace authenticity and goodness as beauty and not physical attributes. But of course, before we can change the definition of beauty we’ll have to start by its inclusivity and that is why I believe it’s important.”

With the platform Miss Grand Kenya 2020 provides Irene, she wants to help and influence positive social change in society. She’s a goodwill ambassador for a non-profit organization called Makaya Hub; a technological platform geared towards safe motherhood in marginalized communities in Kenya and wide across Africa. The organization’s vision is to see a Kenya and Africa where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is celebrated, and every life is accounted for.

Irene is strong, powerful, determined, and focused on her goals and with her experience and dedication towards being the best of herself on-stage, she can emerge as one of the strongest contenders for the title.

Congratulations queen!
