The Miss South Africa organization will be hosting the coronation for Miss South Africa 2021 on 16th October 2021 at Sun International Grandwest Arena, where the representatives for next year’s editions of Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss Supranational will be crowned. The organization officially announced the top 10 delegates who will now compete for the national crown.
Zimi Mabunzi is one of the finalists who will be vying for the coveted crowns and an opportunity to represent South Africa on an international stage. She is the winner of the public voting as well. Zimi is 26-years-old. She is a final year student of BCom Law at the Nelson Mandela University in eGqeberha.
After being announced as the finalist, Zimi mentioned, “I entered Miss South Africa because the time feels right and as an honour to my commitment to myself over the years, to honour a dream I was not willing to let go of once I realized it and to live a life of impact on a broader scale.” She is not new to the world of beauty pageants as she was the winner of Miss Eastern Cape – Beauty with a Purpose 2015/16.
Talking about the biggest problem youth is facing currently, Zimi mentioned unemployment and believes, “this is one of the biggest contributing factors to most challenges we face as a country. Our rocketing crime rate, inequality, the vast differences in our standards of living, and mental illness issues are also huge problems.” She has always been someone who has embraced her difficulties, fought them, and defeated them like a queen which makes her confident, stronger, and more focused on winning the crown.
On asking about her views on how does she think beauty pageants are still relevant today, Zimi stated, “Look at Zozibini Tunzi, who through her success, has inspired women all over the world to no longer be oblivious to the need for transformation, representation, and inclusivity. I think for as long as inclusivity, self-confidence, authenticity, and unrealistic beauty standards are things we still need to champion, there is a big need for pageants. Especially a pageant such as Miss South Africa, that embraces diversity as much as it does.”
The queen who is passionate about life wants to study and make music of her own in the future. She describes herself as calm, intentional, and willing which are some of the qualities that a winner of Miss South Africa 2021 should possess. She is grateful to be a part of such an incredible journey that will help her not only find herself but also give her a chance to represent her country in an international competition.
Just like some of the previous representatives of South Africa have performed exceptionally well at their respective beauty pageants, Zimi Mabunzi is looking forward to creating her legacy by preparing well and performing her best on-stage.
Congratulations!
