09 Nov 2019 | Abigail Henry

Filipina beauties have always dazzled in the Miss Tourism International pageant. With their journey and their outstanding performances in this International pageant, the Filipina beauties won 4 times since the pageant’s beginning, taking dominance with most number of crowns. And now, in the 22nd edition of Miss Tourism International 2019 which is going to happen today at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, Selangor, Malaysia, we are hoping the best for Philippines.

The 5th edition of Miss Tourism International i.e. Miss Tourism International 2000, was held on 19th November 2000 in Malaysia, where Maria Esperanza Manzano won the title after her outstanding performance at the international pageant. She bested other contestants with her outshining beauty and became the first ever Filipina beauty to win the Miss Tourism International beauty pageant.

Again, in year 2012, Miss Tourism International hosted its 16th edition held on 31 December 2012, where Rizzini Alexis Gomez from Philippines won the title of Miss Tourism International 2012. But unfortunately, in that late year, the 25 years of age diva died after a battle with Lung cancer. "She captured our hearts when she won the title Mutya Pilipinas - Tourism 2012. She made the whole country proud when she won the international crown of Miss Tourism International 2012 in Malaysia. A 25-year-old Cebuana who ruled the global pageantry scene. A great loss... Our deepest sympathy and prayers. Filipinos will always be proud of you. Rizzini Alexis Gomez (Birthdate: August 29, 1990)," posted the Mutya Pilipinas pageant on Facebook.

When Angeli Dione Gomez set foot in Malaysia to represent the Philippines in the 2013 Miss Tourism International pageant, she was aware that many people didn’t think she would win. But Gomez bested 59 other aspirants in the finals held on 31st December 2013, and scored a back-to-back victory for the Philippines, also making the country the most successful nation in the 17-year-old international pageant with three victories.

Philippines beauty queen Jannie Loudette Alipo-on was crowned Miss Tourism International 2017, beating 46 other contestants, at the pageant finals held at a hotel on 6th December 2017. Beaming with joy, the 25 years of age diva, received the crown from previous year’s winner, Ariel Pearse of New Zealand Miss Tourism International 2016. Jannie walked away with a scholarship worth RM60,000 from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology; RM10,000 in cash; a trophy and other prizes. The pageant was the 20th edition and was themed as "Promoting Tourism, Culture and Friendship", which is an international talent search platform aimed at promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2020.

The Mutya Pilipinas Organization, which sends their Filipina beauties to the global tilt, have a different insight into the Philippines’ success in the Malaysia-based international pageant. They’ve been sending good public speakers, intelligent women—beautiful inside and out. President Jacqueline Tan believed the organization scored a back-to-back victory for the Philippines because Mutya ng Pilipinas is breeding winners, Filipino beauties who can compete internationally. Their training is markedly more intense. They require the titleholders to train almost every day for at least six months.
