As the finale of Miss Universe 2015 came to an end, it looked like as if it might be a back to back win for Colombia. Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo from Colombia was already wearing the crown and waving at the audiences as this year's Miss Universe winner, when the host Steve Harvey returned to apologize. "OK folks ... I have to apologize.”, these were Steve’s words, as a confused Vegas audience looked at him. He continued and said it was his mistake and that he would take responsibility for not correctly reading the card, which said that contestant Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was this year's winner and Colombia was actually the first runner-up. "Nobody feels worse about this than me," he concluded.
While a confused and surprised Pia walked towards the stage, a shocked and disheartened Ariadna stood their looking all confused. It was a conflicting emotion for both the girls. Colombia was then forced to give up her crown and look at it as it went to Miss Philippines. This confused and conflicting ending, left the viewers on the edge of their seats. Pia said, since she is now the voice of Miss Universe, she apologises for what happened on behalf of the organization. She says the mistake wasn't done purposely and "it was an honest mistake."
Harvey also apologized on Twitter and wrote, "I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake," he wrote. "I feel terrible." "It was humiliating for the women. It was humiliating for him," he told reporters after the pageant. His mistake meant one of the world’s most watched beauty pageants ending in shock and tears as Miss Colombia was demoted to being the first runner-up, and Miss Philippines were declared the official winner.

The competition started with contestants representing 80 countries between the ages of 19 and 27. For the first time, viewers at home got the chance to weigh in, with their votes being tallied in addition to four in-person celebrity judges. This year has been a year of controversy for Miss Universe it seems. Starting with Donald Trump’s controversial statement against the Latinas, to countries withdrawing from the pageant, the Miss Universe went through all of it. And when the final night came, the most imperial moment was jeopardised by the host. At just a blink, Miss Colombia got her dreams shattered in front of the world and Miss Philippines didn't even get the moment to enjoy and feel the joy of being crowned as the new Miss Universe.
