In just a month now, Miss Universe will have a new beauty queen who will reign the world, the universe rather. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will pass on her crown to her successor on the eve of 30th January 2017. As controversial as her crowning was, Pia Wurtzbach’s reign was one memorable roller coaster ride to remember. She is one of the most popular and loved Miss Universe winners of all time. During her reign, Pia not just inspired a lot of people with her work, but also was successful in setting trends whether it’s in fashion or anything else. Pia Wurtzbach’s reign has set a benchmark for all the future winners, and reaching the level will be a challenge on its own for sure.

The first one has to be her crowning moment. Pia’s consistent efforts and hard work finally paid off when the beauty ended the country’s 42 year long drought at Miss Universe by winning the title on 20th December 2016. Pia’s crowning moment also became memorable due to the crowning fiasco that took place that night. Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner at first and immediately apologized for the faux pas and announced Ms Philippines as the true winner.
Moving on to the next memorable moment, after a month of her coronation Pia returned to Philippines and was welcomed with a grand parade. The parade was more like a carnival that saw fans gather around to celebrate the gala homecoming. Pia also got nostalgic as she reminisced her acting days in Philippines. She thanked her fans, friends and family for all the support.
During the Q&A session of Miss Universe 2015, Pia said that if she wins the crown she will use her voice to influence the youth and raise awareness about HIV, and she did stand successful in what she promised. Throughout her reign, we have seen Pia talking about her cause, working towards it, and doing her bit. Pia visited the United Nations headquarters in New York to attend a forum on HIV/AIDS. She also became the sixth Miss Universe to be given the title #HIV Prevention Ambassador by Aid for AIDS. As part of her advocacy, Pia appeared in a video message, encouraging everyone to get tested for HIV. In fact, she herself got tested a few days prior to the release of the video message.
Apart from her advocacy, the beauty queen has also been in the limelight for her love life. Remember Dr Mike? The whole nation went gaga when dating rumours of Pia Wurtzbach and Dr Mike surfaced on the internet. According to recent reports, Pia is dating the Filipino-Swiss race car driver Marlon Stockingeradn. The duo’s social media account also reflects that the couple is really enjoying each other’s company and we couldn’t have been happier about it.

Another memorable moment from Pia’s reign has to be the finals of Binibining Pilipinas 2016, when Pia passed on her crown to Maxine Medina. By earning the crown, Maxine earned the rights to compete at Miss Universe 2016. While passing on the crown, Pia also gave a word of advice to Maxine and said, "It's not just a pretty headpiece they put on top of your head. It's your ticket to represent the Filipina and the whole nation. And I know you're ready." Now, that’s the sweetest thing to say, isn’t it? While we are on the topic, Maxine is eyeing a back to back victory for Philippines at Miss Universe 2016.
Pia Wurtzbach has also been an inspiration for girls by bringing in focus some amazingly trendy outfits. During her appearance at New York Fashion Week, which included modelling for fashion brand Sherri Hill and Desigual, Pia made few extremely stylish appearances, and we couldn’t help but drool over her looks. She has also inspired girls with her motivational thoughts. She taught how to never give up on your dreams. "I walked away from the pageant stage empty handed many times and it was tough! But I never gave up and neither should you," said Pia.
Apart from her regular activities and advocacy, Pia has always been active about doing her bit for the society whenever she got time. So, the beauty queen celebrated her Thanksgiving Day by preparing meals for the less fortunate in collaboration with God’s Love We Deliver. Now, that’s combining two of her passions – cooking and working for the benefit of society.
