Promising advocacies of Miss Universe 2020

The 69th edition of Miss Universe, i.e., Miss Universe 2020 is rumored to take place in the first trimester of 2021. Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa will crown her successor at the end of the finale. The coronation ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic outbreak across the world.

The representatives at the Miss Universe 2020 use the platform given to them to advocate about their advocacies which is beneficial for the society as they believe that the platform helps them to reach to a massive audience and would help in making a little shift in the society. Every delegate has their own specific advocacy they believe in and wants to take it further but we have selected some of the powerful advocacies by the Miss Universe queens of 2020 who we think can make a huge impact on the society’s upliftment and change.

Let’s look at some of the promising advocacies of Miss Universe 2020:

Miss Universe Thailand 2020 Amanda Obdam is a mental health advocate and wants to use the platform of Miss Universe to create awareness and educate people about the Mental Health situation across the world. She wants to advocate about Mental Health because she understands the pressure of the world right now and wants people to understand the sufferer and how to deal with them in a proper way. Miss Universe India 2020 Adline Quadros Castelino works with a welfare organization called ‘Vikas Sahayog Pratishthan’ (VSP) which functions to provide a sustainable livelihood for farmers, to curb farmers' suicides and inequality. She has often advocated on spreading more awareness about the acceptance of LGBT community. She also advocates to encourage leadership qualities in women by conducting leadership programs. Recently she associated with a campaign that helps in educating about polycystic ovary syndrome and promoted a drive titled 'PCOS Free India' to help women reverse the condition naturally through holistic wellness practices, without medications.

 

 

Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo is a staunch advocate of education. “As an educator, I want people to see education the way that I see it – a golden ticket to success. Knowledge is and always will be power, wherever you are, whoever you’re with. If you are knowledgeable you will excel and become successful”, she added. Miss Universe Vietnam 2020 Nguyen Tran Khánh Vân is an advocate for sexually abused victims and aims to raise awareness and create a safe environment; urging people to speak up and break their silence so that the same thing doesn’t happen with someone else. She works with the #onebodyvillage organization that helps children who have encountered sexual harassment and other forms of abuse.

 

 

Miss Universe Finland 2020 Viivi Altonen is a firm advocate for Women leadership and empowerment in the society. She works under the advocacy #shecan which aims to support women who come from hardship into leadership roles. She wants to promote the rights of girls around the world and along with her team woks for uplifting the status of the women in her community and teaching them leadership qualities that will help them in future.

 

 

Miss Universe Peru 2020 Janick Maceta is an advocate for abused children and works towards making their lives better. She has an NGO called Little Heroes Peru, created in favor of children who are or have been victims of sexual violence. The young woman also went to them and said "I believe you." She adds, “You need the tools you need to cope with that trauma. There are many entities that help, but I believe that there is no direct channel for child victims of sexual abuse. (...) There are many cameras, in the different regions, that do not work or do not have the personnel.”

 

 

Miss Universe Canada 2020 Nova Stevens stands up against anti-Black racism and wants to use this opportunity to bring attention to the injustice faced by racialized people. She mentioned, “I have always used my voice because I felt like, again it’s a privilege to have a voice because not everybody gets the ability to speak.” She wants to create awareness and educate more people because, at the end of the day, it’s about educating people. Miss Universe Romania 2020 Bianca Tirsin volunteers at various organizations which aims to eliminate any form of domestic violence in Romania, to inform and provide support to people in need and she aspires to change the culture of taxation both nationally and internationally. She also works as an advocate for the children’s education as she believes in the power of education to transform lives and combating bullying in Romania.

 

 

Miss Universe Spain 2020 Andrea Martinez after several years facing bullying has been able to build herself a career which helps her to advocate about stop bullying. She feels that beauty reflects what one is from the inside rather than on the outside and beauty pageants have helped her to understand that. She finds it a very good idea to share her experience with others to give support and reassurance to people who have gone through or are going through a similar situation.
