Belize to fight for Miss Universe 2018 crown

23 Mar 2018 | Angelique Reyes

Miss Universe Belize has been taking a backseat when it came to sending a representative to the Miss Universe pageant. Many citizens of the country have shown their disliking for the organization of the pageant, on their official Facebook page as well.

Some relief comes in the news as Miss Universe Belize has found itself a new organization, that is ready to give it’s best to the pageant, and take it to the heights it deserves to be. The new organization is being led by the new National Director, Romeo Escobar. Escobar is a three-time Emmy award-winning producer.

The new organization has taken its first steps towards the betterment of the pageant and has officially announced that the pageant will be held this year, to select a representative for Belize to Miss Universe 2018, where Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters will crown her successor.

In an interview with Belize national daily, Escobar shared that his vision is to make sure things are done the right way this time in Belize.

“I will make sure the new organization operates with honesty and full transparency. Our goal is to ensure that the next young lady to represent Belize, both nationally and internationally, has our full support. It is important that all of us in Belize work together to make sure this is successful,” Escobar explained.

The outcome already seems much brighter than the previous years. In 2017, the father of Miss Belize Universe Rebecca Roth, Tony Roth had revealed the mistreatment his daughter had gone through at the hands of the previous organizers. Former director Opal Enriquez had split ways with the pageant in 2016, but this report by Tony brought out the trauma that he had apparently put the contestants through.

Hopefully, for the Miss Universe Belize pageant, Escobar’s takeover comes a welcome change and gives hope for the pageant’s future.
