Kongka Chan, at 22 years of age, participated in Cambodia’s Next Top Model season 1 where she emerged victorious amongst almost fifty contestants who began their journey. Standing 169 cm tall, Kongka hails from Kaub, Bântéay Méan Cheay and currently resides in Phnom Penh. Ever since her win at Next Top Model, Chan has been working as a successful model in her country.

A businesswoman, Chan also is a host of Chit-chat with Kongka. Flashing her signature smile, Chan looks like a picture of perfection. Her journey hasn’t been easy as it has taken hard work, commitment and determination for her to get where she is today, and she is hoping her story will inspire a wave of entrepreneurial Cambodian women to follow in her footsteps and chase their dreams.

After four years modelling, I’ve worked with many brands and designers. It seemed natural to start my own fashion business and people say modelling is a short career so you need to build something besides it”, she says about her passion for her venture.

After her stint at Next Top Model, she has strutted her stuff on international catwalks, represented major brands, risen to the ranks of prominent social media influencer and launched Jasmine & Pear in 2019.

Kongka’s personal life story is nothing but inspirational. Born into a poverty-stricken family in Banteay Meanchey province, life was hard for Kongka growing up. Desperate for money to support their six daughters, her parents went to Thailand to work in construction leaving 12-year-old Kongka and her older sister to care for their siblings. As illegal workers, they were arrested and spent one month in prison, unable to send money home. Kongka reached out to an NGO that was able to take in her and her older sister. The rest of the family relocated to Phnom Penh to stay with an aunty, who was able to fund food and provide shelter, but not education.

Chan is the epitome of an inspiring woman and if she decides to be a part of Miss Universe Cambodia 2020, she will not only be a strong competition for the other ladies but also an ideal representative of Cambodia at a platform such as Miss Universe.
