Mandaluyong's Maria Corazon Abalos rising as a dark horse in Miss Universe Philippines 2021

The Miss Universe Philippines organization is all set to host the coronation ceremony for Miss Universe Philippines 2021 on 25th September 2021. After a series of virtual challenges, the organization has announced Top 50 delegates, who have moved a step closer to winning the coveted crown.

The shortlisted names include phenomenal women who are strong, determined and ready to inspire women all over the world. One of these wonderful women, is a rising dark horse of the competition and it is none other than Mandaluyong’s representative, Maria Corazon Abalos, fondly known as Corrine Abalos.

 

 

Maria Corazon Abalos is a 23 year-old Filipino beauty queen, entrepreneur and model. She runs an agricultural business with her sister, called Cora’s Seafood Market. She graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in International Studies. Corrine’s father, Former Mandaluyong Mayor and current MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos shared a post on his Facebook page saying that her daughter is following her mother’s footsteps, Mayor Menchie Abalos joined Binibining Pilipinas in the past representing Cavite.

During the Headshot Online Challenge which ended on 2nd August, Abalos was at the 5th position in total votes. She was also at Number 7 in the Video Introduction Challenge. The diva also made it to the Top 15 of Runway Challenge at the 7th position and at the 10th place among the Top 15 finalists for the Casting Challenge.

Corrine has been making it to the top in a steady and consistent pace, making her one of the strongest contender for the title this year. This pageant newbie is also being compared to Philippines’ pride and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach,, gaining attention as she rises as a dark horse.

Filipina TV host, actress, producer, product endorser and businesswoman Kris Aquino, who usually does not express support for beauty pageant candidates, recently made an exception for Maria Corazon Abalos as she backed her for the pageant. Aquino told fans that Abalos is deserving of the Miss Universe Philippines crown, believing the candidate will perform well in the beauty pageant’s question-and-answer portion.

Abalos is beautiful, confident, well-spoken and definitely a strong choice to represent Philippines at the Miss Universe platform, one of the biggest beauty pageants in the world. Crawling her way towards the Top 30 selection, Corrie is surely getting there with her stellar performances throughout the competition.

 

 

For the next part of the competition, the delegates’ wits and spontaneity will be put to the test. This time, the verdict will be coming from a panel of experts. These Top 50 delegates will go to Manila for a live face-to-face interview challenge with the Miss Universe Philippines board of judges. Ultimately, a Top 30 will be chosen and announced.

Out of these 30 delegates, one phenomenal woman will take away the crown of Miss Universe Philippines 2021 and win an opportunity to represent Philippines at Miss Universe 2021, scheduled to be held in Israel, this December. The winner of this year’s national pageant will succeed Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo who was placed at Top 21 at Miss Universe 2020.
