22 year old Adau Mornyang from Victoria is a finalist at Miss World Australia 2017. Well, that is not it, as the beauty is trending on internet these days for her courageous confession. Adau spoke up about being a survivor of rape that took place when she was a teenager.

Adau shared her story in an hour long live video on Facebook. She described the incident, , which she said occurred in Adelaide in 2012, when she was 17, after meeting up with two male friends. The beauty queen who works as a model hopes that she will someday become the voice of young women who lost their dignity.
Adau shared that the incident occurred when she had turned to two of her male friends for support after breaking up with her boyfriend. The Facebook video has had over 39,000 views and been shared more than 400 times. Adau claims that South Sudan has a very bad rape culture that is cropping in.
According to Adau, when she was raped, she sought the help of the police and the two culprits were immediately arrested. But the pressure on her from the South Sudanese community forced her to drop the case. Adau’s purpose of the video was to start a conversation about rape culture that is quite a serious issue in South Sudanese community. She said she sees the Miss World Australia pageant, which she will compete in July, as an opportunity to speak about social issues, and help those who have also experienced sexual assault.
Adau Mornyang will compete at the Miss World Australia Official Crowning Ceremony which will be hosted at Grand Hyatt Melbourne on July 14.
