In December 2014, the Miss World Organisation announced that there would be no bikini round from next year onwards. As per the announcement made by the pageant chairwoman Julia Morley stressing 'Beauty with a Purpose' aspect of the pageant, she said, "I don't need to see women just walking up and down in bikinis. It doesn't do anything for the woman. And it doesn't do anything for any of us." She added "I don't care if someone has a bottom two inches bigger than someone else's. We are really not looking at her bottom. We are really listening to her speak." Following the footsteps of Miss World organization is Miss World China organisation that cancelled the popular swimsuit round from the pageant.

The idea behind discontinuing with the swimsuit round was that the Miss World organization believes showing girls in "bikini" is disrespectful to women and misleading for the image of the concept of a beauty pageant.

The launch of this year's Miss China contest has been delayed to make way for a new fresh format for the pageant and also to change the criteria for selecting candidates for the pageant. The pageant will highlight Chinese culture as one of the most important criterion this year.  The Miss World China final will be held in September, while the global Miss World finale will be held in Sanya, China on 19 December.
