22-year-old Sophia M Joe from Kochi has been selected to represent India in the Miss World Deaf and   Dumb Contest which will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, July 17' 2014. She was the first runner-up in Miss India Deaf & Dumb contest held in Delhi, and was chosen to represent India at the international pageant, after the winner declined to participate.

She is a second year student of BA (English Language & Literature) at St Xavier’s College

Sophia is an inspiring example of grit and determination as she fights all odds to attain her biggest dream. “My daughter always says that she wants to be a supermodel and we are willing to fight all the way to make her dream come true,” says Sophia’s mother, Goriaty.

Sophia has excelled in her life in the fields of modelling, fashion designing, as well as sports. Sophia has walked the ramp for many fashion shows, including Cochin International Fashion Week 2013 for Sanjana John. She dubbed for a hearing impaired character in the movie Bangkok Summer and has acted in Best Wishes, a movie for the differently-abled. She was also the second runner up of Miss Malayalee Worldwide 2013 held in Kochi in December, 2013. She has also been eight-time state champion and three-time national champion in shot put and discus throw for the hearing impaired. Besides, she also does glass painting and designs jewellery.
