Magline Jeruto from Elgeyo-Marakwet bested seven other contestants drawn from different counties to clinch the coveted title of Miss World Kenya 2017 at the finale of the pageant held at The Mall in Westlands, Nairobi on 16th September 2017. She succeeds and was crowned by Evelyn Njambi, Miss World Kenya 2016 and will now represent Kenya in Miss World 2017 to be held in Sanya, China in November.

Machakos County’s Sheila Kanini and Meru County’s Ntinyari Mburukua were declared first and second runner-up respectively.

Last year at Miss World 2016, Evelyn was placed in Top at the finale and won the title of Miss World Africa 2017, and her Beauty with a Purpose project was also amongst the five selected by Miss World organisation.

Due to political tensions in Kenya, with the cancellation of elections, the franchise holder Ashley's was forced to draw its finalists from the previous year’s competitors, rather than holding a full-fledged open event as was earlier planned.

Other finalists in the contest were Keryl Cindy (Kisii), Nicksylvia Muriuki (Kirinyaga), Weficha Doreen (Kakamega), Megan Wallace (Kilifi) and Kagendo Faith (Isiolo).

The dark beauty, who has a very close resemblance to award-winning Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong’o expressed her excitement after being crowned, having unsuccessfully contested twice for the crown in the past.

“I am so happy, I can’t believe I am representing Kenya,” the elated beauty queen said.

“It has been a dream but thank God it has come true,” she added.

Expectations from Magline are high given the success achieved by that her predecessor Evelyn Njambi at the Miss World 2016 contest held Manila, Philippines last year.
