Chairperson of Miss World Zimbabwe, Marry Chiwenga steps down

27 Feb 2018 | Camilla Suarez

In a recent turn of events, it has come out that Miss Zimbabwe Trust chairperson Marry Chiwenga has abdicated her position from the Miss World Zimbabwe pageant after working tirelessly for the last six years to re-establish the pageant’s allure and charm.

Marry, who became chairperson and benefactor of the country’s forerunner pageant in 2012, told a local media house that the beauty contest would now be run by a nine-member executive committee.

She said although she remained the pageant’s licence holder, she had entrusted the executive committee to handle the pageant’s affairs.

“I have surrendered a huge responsibility to the nine-member Miss Zimbabwe Trust executive committee to run the country’s flagship pageant, Miss World Zimbabwe, which also comes with a huge responsibility of also flying the country’s flag high,” she explained.

Further elongating her buoyancy in the new management team, she continued “As I step down, I feel like a good loser who has lost something to a hard-working executive committee, which will work harder than me. I wish them all the best as they commence this year’s pageant without me on board.”

“It is the same script, but different cast.”

Remembering the former Miss Zimbabwe Trust patron, Kiki Divaris, she expressed how he was irreplaceable and she hopes that the pageant committee bestow her also the same respect.

“I just want to challenge the executive committee to do it better than what I used to do with them so as to raise the pageant’s bar high. They must remain focused and concentrate on the pageant’s purpose for it to remain significant and relevant.”

The former beauty queen has been a pillar of positive change and strength to the beauty pageant since 6 years bringing the kind of confidence that the pageant needed. With her as the chairperson, the winners left with a hefty sum as price. They worked enduringly to bring social changes in the country through some good advocacies and Marry hopes that the committee trust continue the good work in her absence.
