Panama boycotts Miss Universe pageant

Panama has decided to boycott the Miss Universe pageant, owned by Donald Trump. Panama now becomes the third country to boycott the pageant after Mexico and Costa Rica. The decision follows comments that were made by Trump while announcing his candidacy for the Republican party nomination for President of the United States, on Mexican immigrants.

The Miss Panama organization made the official announcement via the organisation’s Twitter account and was confirmed by pageant President Marisela Moreno. Since Panama will not be participating in this year’s Miss Universe pageant, it is assumed that the winner of Miss Panama will compete in the Miss World contest.

Panama’s performance at the Miss Universe so far has been decent and the country has managed one Miss Universe titleholder so far (in the year 2002) - Justine Pasek – who took over after the original winner from Russia, Oxana Federova, was dethroned.
