Cory Quirino gives up the license of Miss World Philippines

The Miss Universe pageant is on its road to the finale, and is scheduled to be held on 30th January 2017. As the MU pageant has kicked off in the Philippines, the country came across another update, and this one from the Miss World Philippines. Miss World Philippines head Cory Quirino made the announcement that shook the Philippines.

Cory Quirino announced that she had decided to relinquish the license of Miss World Philippines. She added that the reasons are both personal and business related. “Thank you for supporting me all these six years, and for being part of our challenges and victories. I will never forget you,” she added.

Quirino, who is also an Inquirer Lifestyle columnist, took hold of the franchise for the Miss World pageant in 2011. She is the granddaughter of a former Philippine President Elpidio Quirino. The franchise of Miss World in Philippines has travelled from time to time.The Miss Republic o the Philippines was the first national pageant that selected India’s representatives to the Miss World, between 1966 to 1976.

In 1977, the franchise went on to the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, and was with the said organisation till 1991. Quirino has been great with producing some amazing Miss World Philippines winners. Under Quirino, Philippines earned its first victory at the Miss World pageant when Megan Young was crowned as the winner in the year 2013. Between 2011 to 2016 has been the honeymoon period for Quirino at Miss World Philippines, as, this was the time period when the country was recognised in the Miss World stage.

Gwendoline Ruais finished in the second place at Miss World 2011, Queneerich Rehman cracked the Top 8 in 2012, while 2014 bet Valerie Weigmann advanced to the Top 25. Hillarie Danielle Parungao made it to the Top 10 spot in 2015, while Catriona Gray finished fourth last December. Quirino, when asked who will inherit the license next, said, “it will be assigned to someone else, hopefully a friend or associate whom I already introduced to [the Miss World Organization].”
