Miss Universe Iceland commenced as a separate pageant in the year 2016 to select Iceland’s representative for Miss Universe under the directorship of Jorge Esteban and Manuela Osk.
Prior to that, representatives for Miss Universe were selected by Miss Iceland pageant, which also selected representatives for Miss World and the last representative sent by Miss Iceland organization to Miss Universe was in the year 2009 when Ingibjörg Ragnheiður Egilsdóttir was appointed to compete in Miss Universe 2009. Iceland, thereafter, did not compete in Miss Universe pageant from 2010 to 2015, until the new franchise was established in 2016.
Year 2017
Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir was crowned Miss Universe Iceland 2017. Her court included Ester Elísabet Gunnarsdóttir (first runner-up), Elísa Gróa Steinþórsdóttir (second runner-up), Hulda Margrét Sigurðardóttir (third runner-up) and Dagbjört Rúriksdóttir (fourth runner-up). Arna represented Iceland in Miss Universe 2017, though remained unplaced.
Year 2016
Hildur Maria Leifsdóttir was crowned Miss Universe Iceland 2017. Her court included Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir (first runner-up), Andrea Sigurðardóttir (second runner-up), Elísa Gróa Steinþórsdóttir (third runner-up) and Thoranna Thorarins (fourth runner-up). Hildur represented Iceland in Miss Universe 2016, though remained unplaced.
