Miss Polonia : Info

Miss Polonia (Miss Poland Universe) is an annual beauty pageant held in Poland to select one deserving contestant who gets the opportunity to represent Poland at the Miss Universe beauty pageant. The runners up of Miss Polonia get the opportunity to represent their country at two of the most prestigious Big Four beauty pageants, i.e. Miss Earth and Miss International.

Miss Polonia started in the year 1929, and since the conceptualization of the pageant, it has been selecting stunning beauties to make the country proud at International beauty pageants. Initially Miss Polonia used to select the countries representative at all Big 4 beauty pageants, but in the year 2007, Miss World took away the franchise from Miss Polonia and gave it to Miss Polski. Since then the Miss Polonia’s winner represents Poland at Miss Universe and the runners up represent the country at Miss Earth and Miss International respectively.

Miss Polonia is one of the oldest national beauty pageants and has an exceptional history to it. The contestants in Miss Polonia represent their respective regions/states. They go through a fierce competition where they are judged based on beauty, intellect, talent and empathy. The winner is crowned after a careful analysis by the Jury. The viewer’s popular opinion is also taken into consideration for selecting the winner of Miss Polonia. The gala event is broadcasted live on Polish public television (TVP 2) each year; it has a viewer base of 4 to 5 million.

The winner of Miss Polonia is expected to participate in charitable work. The Miss Polonia winner participates in various campaigns such as “Against Domestic Violence”, raises awareness and funds pertaining to the problems faced by the citizens of Poland on daily basis. Miss Polonia also has the additional responsibility of promoting a healthier life style.

The reigning Miss Polonia is Marcela Chmielowska, she will be representing Poland at the Miss Universe 2014 pageant.
