Andrea Meza was crowned Miss Universe 2020 on Sunday night at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, United States. She became the third woman from Mexico to win the coveted crown and has since begun with her crown duties.

Not even a week after her shining moment, there were rumors spreading that the new Miss Universe was married as a photo emerged of her in a wedding dress online. It is against the rules for Miss Universe contestants to be married.

The photo in question was posted by Andrea on 4th September 2019 where Andrea, wearing a wedding dress and a veil, sharing an embrace with a man in a tux, with a caption “3-09-19” followed by a wedding ring emoji.

But Andrea immediately cleared the rumors saying the picture was from an old photo shoot for Chihuahua’s tourism board. Andrea works as the official tourism ambassador for Chihuahua, her residence in Mexico.

The staged photo was a part of a promotional campaign to showcase Copper Canyon, which is known for its hiking trails and stunning views. Explaining the photo, Andrea said, “Back then, I was not in any pageant. I just posted the picture to make fun of the situation. We thought it was funny to prank our friends by only writing date on the caption.”

The model who posed alongside Andrea and Ah Chihuahua also posted statements to stop bothering the Miss Universe with the messages and threats. Although rumors spread like wildfire in the pageantry, looks like this one was a false!
