RIP Miss USA 1957 Charlotte Sheffield

Miss USA 1957 Charlotte Sheffield passed away on April 15’ 2016. The news has been confirmed by her daughter, Tammy, who posted the sad news on Charlotte's official Facebook page.

Charlotte Sheffield had been suffering from  leukemia, but contracted a rare pneumonia, which further debilitated her condition.

The former Miss USA, Charlotte represented Utah at the Miss USA 1957 pageant, which was formerly won by Leona Gage of Maryland. However, Leona was stripped off her crown days later during the 1957 Miss Universe pageant when it was revealed that she was 18, married, and a mother of two children.

Apart from being a beauty queen, Charlotte was an American actress as well. She hailed from Salt Lake City, Utah. After winning the Miss USA title, the lady was later married to Richard Maxfield and had 8 children, four boys and four girls.

Charlotte was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for ten years and acted in many plays and movies. In 1958, Charlotte acted apposite Bret Morrison in a science fiction radio drama ‘The Adventure of the Beauty Queen’, as a part of the Exploring Tomorrow radio series.

The beauty queen was last seen in the ‘stand Strong’ movie, which was released in 2011.

During the Miss USA 1957 pageant, Charlotte Sheffield was crowned by her predecessor Carol Morris, Miss Universe 1956. She could not compete at Miss Universe 1957, but was instead sent to Miss World 1957, but did not place.

At the 2011 Miss USA pageant, which was held in Las Vegas, several former titleholders were invited as special guests, which included Charlotte Sheffield, Myrna Hansen (Miss USA 1953), Miriam Stevenson (Miss USA 1954 who won Miss Universe 1954) and Terry Huntingdon (Miss USA 1959).
