Do you remember the beauty queen who was dethroned about a month and a half ago, after she was caught having sex on UK reality TV show , ‘Love Island’? “I started doing beauty pageants two years ago, after entering and winning Miss Hull and ending up at the Miss England final. From there I got the pageant bug, really. At the time I just thought, why not, you only live once. They are a great thing to achieve, especially with the focus they put on charity work,” said Zara. According to Zara, after winning the title of Miss Great Britain, she had put in a huge amount of her time and effort in promoting the pageant. Zara said that she even gave in her savings into a personal PR company to organises extra publicity and events.

“I was totally devastated about losing my crown. Even after the mistake I made, after all the hard work and effort I put in, promoting them with my own money, they just turned on me. I feel so disappointed. They should be empowering women, not treating them like second-class citizens. They advertise themselves as a modern beauty pageant, but they just aren’t! I read someone commenting on the irony of an organisation judging you on being beautiful and sexy, and then freaking out about you actually having sex. I totally agree," this is what Holland had to say about the whole incident.

The National Director of Miss Great Britain, Kate Solomons responded to the comments with the following statement...

“The reason she was stripped of the title was simply that she had sex on television, after specifically promising that she wouldn’t. In our rules, it states that you can’t do anything to bring the competition into disrepute. We’re very open-minded and supportive of all our girls, but doing that on television when she’s working with charities and children, and meant to be a role model - it breaches those rules. Behind closed doors she’s welcome to do whatever she wants. We know she’s a young girl and we’re not against it at all, it’s just not something we’d expect in a public domain."

No matter what the Miss Great Britain Organisation claims, they had to face quite a tough time after their decision on dethroning Zara Holland. The Organisation faced a backlash from the media as well as the public. The fans displayed their support for Zara Holland through a petition to reinstate her title with 20,742 signatures at time of writing.
