The Miss Singapore Chinatown 2015 title holder, Vanessa Tay, is now contesting for the 2016 Miss Universe Singapore. The 19 year old has a master’s degree from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and is a TVB artist. Vanessa recalls that people dissuaded her but her passion for becoming an actress always inspired her to get on this incredible road to glamour and success. Vanessa now hopes that she can break the stereotype related to majoring in arts.

The young beauty pageant contestant represented Singapore at the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2016 and is now a part time artist at a broadcasting company and television station TVB in Hong Kong. She has also hosted a cooking competition for children, Chef Minor, in Hong Kong.

Vanessa holds her idol in Audrey Hepburn who, according to Vanessa, is beautiful both from the outside as well as inside. She has set a good example by giving to the community without expecting anything in return. Vanessa also wants to move on her steps, by raising awareness about mental disorders, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. She remembers how one of her closest friends was taken for a wilful child and no one understood that he was dealing with ADHD.

Vanessa has observed that the biggest challenge that lies in front of the women of today is their low self-esteem and confidence. She asks women to love themselves and not become demoralised because of criticism.

A great contender at the Miss Universe Singapore 2016, Vanessa and the other contesting beauties will be seen on the coronation day on October 16 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Singapore.
