In 1997, Madeleine Stringer of North Shields was placed fifth runner up in Miss World 1997. She was the first woman from the north eastern UK to ever achieve a highest place in the International pageant. She brought pride and joy not only towards the country but also to the north region.

United Kingdom have been doing great in the international pageants and have always been in the top. Harriotte’s win as a 4th runner up made it to the next level of heights for the north eastern.

Congratulations to the amazing angel of the north for making a Tyneside history!
