Miss World to Miss Universe: Will Iris Salguero follow in the footsteps of Catriona Gray?

Iris Salguero became the official representative of Belize at Miss Universe 2020 as she was appointed by the official organization on 9th January 2021. The 21-year-old stunner hails from San Pedro.

Iris is all set to follow in the footsteps of Catriona Gray from Philippines who was crowned Miss Universe in 2018. Iris and Catriona hail from the batch of Miss World 2016 where they represented Belize and Philippines, respectively.

For Catriona, her journey from Miss World 2016 to Miss Universe 2018 has been inspirational. With Iris’ journey at Miss World 2016 as well, she has the opportunity to now create history by following in the footsteps of Catriona in Miss Universe 2020.

Iris is currently working as a brand ambassador and a model for local businesses owned by female entrepreneurs. The newly crowned Miss Universe Belize 2020/2021 Iris’ mission is to empower the young women in Belize to overcome hardship and accomplish their dreams. For two years, she was part of S.H.I.N.E, an organization dedicated to building healthy self-esteem for girls aged 12-18.

Iris is passionate about the environment and has participated in several clean up campaigns to spread awareness on the importance of protecting the natural resources in her country. Along with being Miss Universe Belize 2020/21, Iris also has proudly represented Belize at international platforms as well which includes Miss World 2016, Miss America Latina del Mundo 2018, and Miss Earth 2017. At Miss Earth 2017, Iris placed in the Top 16 at Intelligence and Environmental Awareness.

It will be interesting to see how far Iris will go in Miss Universe 2020. If she wins the coveted crown, she will be the first woman from Belize to win the Miss Universe crown.
