Jessica Procter, of Tuscaloosa, was crowned as Miss Alabama 2017 during the finale of the 2017 Miss Alabama Pageant which was held at Samford University's Wright Center on Saturday evening.
She will now represent her state at the Miss America competition 2018, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on September10, 2017. The event will be broadcasted by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Miss America 2017, Savvy Shields, will officially crown her successor.
Procter, 21, is a senior at the University of Alabama. It wasn't the first win of the day for Procter. Prior to the finale, she won the Catherine Crosby Long Award for Community Service for her personal platform, "Step Up To The Plate,” a partnership with the West Alabama Food Bank to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger and food insecurity.
She beat out 47 other young ladies to become the 2017 Miss Alabama. In the talent round she sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ while her platform is ‘Step Up to The Plate’.
"When they called out my name for the community service winner, it was like winning Miss Alabama honestly, because that's something I've worked the hardest on this year and something that to me, I'd rather be recognized for than anything else just because that is not about me," she said after the finale. "With community service that's the betterment of other people."
Let’s see if Miss Alabama will be able to engrave her name on the coveted title or not.
