There were some doubts and questions raised due to the lack of participation this year so recently the 2018 Miss Botswana Final Beauty Pageant Event drafted an announcement addressing those concerns and stating the reasons for the same.

According to the announcement, previously, the Miss Botswana Beauty Pageant had been under a lot of controversy, so they are now trying to approach the general public through rebranding and re-launching to regain their trust.

Earlier, the previous winners of Miss Botswana used to simply hand over the crown to the 1st runner-up and the latter would go on to represent the nation in the international pageant as the queen. The organization communicated the idea to the Miss World organization, but the latter suggested that the nation have a mini pageant with 6 contestants from the last year, provided they were eligible and interested.

The Miss Botswana Beauty Pageant instead called in the Top 12 contestants except the winner of last year. “Out of the contestants called in, 2 were interested but not eligible, 7 were eligible but not interested citing reasons like ‘I am busy with school’, ‘I am busy with work’, ‘I am not interested because of past year’s treatment.’ Only two of the contestants were eligible and interested, so they became finalists in Miss Botswana 2018. The 7 contestants who were not interested were asked to reconsider the offer and one of them changed her mind, so she became the 3rd contestant in Miss Botswana 2018”, the organization explained in their announcement.

The credibility of judging in the event has been divided into four different and equal categories which means the general public, the creative industry and past Miss Botswana Queens Representatives, the panel of judges and the attendants at the event will all get 25% of weightage in votes in the event. The organization promises to return to the norm and procedure of auditions from 2019.

Having said so, Angelopedia wishes all the ladies the very best for their national delegacy and to the Miss Botswana Beauty Pageant for their relaunch and a smooth run in the future.
