Mia Jones won the title of Miss Delaware during the state finale held on 26-27 November, 2016 and will move on to represent Delaware in the national pageant of Miss USA 2017. The state finale was held at the Doubletree Hotel near Wilmington, Delaware. About the pageant, Mia says, “I believe everyone is on an even playing field until the judges make their selection. In the Miss Delaware USA Pageant, they wanted the top grown-up and mature woman.”

The 20 year old Mia Jones originally belongs to the city Bear and represented Bear in the finale. Prior to this, Mia also won the 2014 Delaware Teen USA 2014 and has been the top 15 finalist at the Miss USA 2014. Mia has won both the state level pageants in the first trial itself. Mia is a junior at the historically black Delaware State University in Dover and has kept her education as the first priority.
Mia had a disturbing childhood and faced racism because of being a black kid. While in a candid interview, Mia says, “From a bullied and suicidal teenager to Miss Delaware USA 2014 and now Miss Delaware USA 2017. I thank God every day for the opportunities that I have received. Who knows what will happen next for me... maybe Miss USA?”
Delaware is one of the least popular states in the Miss USA pageant and none of the pageant girls has ever won the title. The only award received by a Delaware girl in the Miss USA was Renee Bull, who won the Miss Congeniality award in 2015. And this time, Mia Jones sure is determined to bring her the first ever coveted crown of Miss USA in the history of Delaware.
