She is probably the most loved beauty queen of 2016. She is Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin. Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen rightfully said that if you are crowned in Philippines, Filipinos will love you forever. That is coming true for Katherine, who has fallen in love with the country.

In addition to having a beautiful face, this beauty queen is also a lawyer and is planning to pursue a master’s degree in international laws after the Miss Earth pageant. During her interview with INQUIRER.net, the beauty queen talked about her journey so far giving out little details about her personality. She described herself as someone who is hardworking, committed, strong and independent.

Katherine said that she really poured her heart into winning the Miss Earth pageant and probably that’s what made her win the coveted title defeating 85 aspirants. She further added, “My main difference from all the other girls I think is my love for what I was doing, for the environment, for working. I’m a really hardworking person. I can’t just not do anything during the day.” Katherine also mentioned that the other girls might have given their best, but she gave her 100 percent. According to Espin, “The judges wanted to see a woman that’s committed to work, not only for the sash and for the crown, but also willing to work not just for the environment but also social work, and that was me.”

Katherine, who also attended the finale of Miss Universe 2016, took the opportunity to answer the final question asked to the Top 3 finalists of Miss Universe 2016 - “Name something over the course of your life that you failed at and tell us what you learned from that experience.”

Espin answered: “Throughout my life I have been through many beautiful things, and I am so blessed. But other than that… I have to be honest. I haven’t had a failure in my life. I am a strong woman. I tried to always be a very positive person, and even if bad things happen to me, I will never stay down. I will always keep up and be positive no matter what happens, I will see it in a good way.

The beauty queen added that winning is nothing new to her as she has always been at the top of her game since her school days. Espin says that education is very important and that she has always been the kind of girl who has always prioritised her studies. So her advice to all the young aspiring beauty queens is that “never put education in second place.”

During the interview, Espin very gracefully answered to the controversial statement made by ex Miss Philippines Earth Imelda Scweighart who called Katherine a fake beauty. Espin said, “It doesn’t really matter. I don’t have anything against her after she said all those things, I don’t know why. But I don’t feel hurt because they were not even true. I have my own personality, I know what I am, I know what I have done… I deserve it (the crown), and I don’t really mind what she says.”
