Miss Earth 2021 Destiny Wagner speaks up against criticism over appearance

29 Jan 2022 | Angelique Reyes

Ever since Destiny Wagner won the first ever international beauty title for her country as Miss Earth 2021, the diva has been under the spotlight and has been facing all kinds of criticism. Recently a pageant fan page started circulating a collage photo associating Destiny's natural hair to a cow's feces. The act was indeed an unethical and unprofessional remark for the pageant community and the queen herself.

Destiny was quick off the mark with the situation as she took to her social media to highlight the criticism and speak up against it strongly. She wrote, “As the first Queen with locs to EVER win an international crown I knew I would be subject to ridicule and criticism. People are often intimated by things they do not understand. Many do not associate natural hair (dreadlocks/locs) with the word ‘beautiful’. There’s a lot of things wrong with this picture but it deserved to be shared.

"To many hair is just hair but to many others including myself, hair is identity! My hair symbolizes strength, spirituality and resilience just like my ancestors. This post was meant to break me or attempt to bully me. However, it did not faze me, it fueled me & I hope it fuels you as well to go out there and pursue your dreams regardless of your hair, complexion, economic status, and skin. May it fuel you to speak up against any form of discrimination and may it fuel you to love yourself even more and value the body you were born in,” she added.

With that being said, the queen also took the time to highlight some natural queens from her country who are serving natural hair and representing Black Girl Magic. Some of these names included, Druewel Jones, Queen of the Bay 2021-2022; Thamar Jones, News personality, anchor, host, writer and influencer; Marlyn Vansen, musical artist and entertainer; Mayor Sheran Sharon Palacio, Mayor of the city Belmopan; Indira Craig, news personality, anchor and host; Joyjah Estrada, model and influencer; and Aquila Flores, photographer and entrepreneur.

25 years-old Destiny Wagner is a graduate with BA in Business Administration from Pace University, New York. She is herself a TV series host, influencer, brand ambassador and a print and commercial mode. She is also an accomplished poet and an author of two books. At such a young age, the diva has already achieved a lot and continues to work hard in inspiring minds all around the world.
