All about Miss Earth Canada 2023 Layanna Robinson for Miss Earth 2023

02 Dec 2023 | Priya Bhardwaj

Layanna Robinson was crowned Miss Earth Canada 2023 at the finale of the national pageant held on Sunday, 13th November last year as she became the official representative of Canada at Miss Earth 2023. Robinson bested forty-nine contenders to win the national crown. Currently, Robinson is in Vietnam participating in the pre-pageant activities being hosted in the host country.

Robinson is a Dental Hygiene Student and a classically-trained ballet dancer who performed the Princess Florine variation from the Sleeping Beauty ballet. “It was really awesome to showcase all my years of training”, she exclaimed. Through her reign, she wishes to advocate on how Canadians can fight climate change and bring awareness.

Layanna Robinson is 20 years of age and was born and raised in Victoria, B.C. From a young age, she was eager to use her skills and passion to make a difference within her community. In 2020, she entered her very first pageant to step out of her comfort zone and achieve self-growth. Since then, she has competed in 4 pageants winning 4 titles including the titles of Miss North America 2021 and Miss Earth Canada 2023.

During her reign as Miss Earth Canada, she plans to advocate for environmental awareness using hands on education with youth introducing the 3 R’s:  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. By using hands on education, we can encourage our future eco warriors to adapt ecofriendly habits and help in the restoration of the earth. As an ambassador for the Earth, she believes that we need to create a world that is sustainable for future generations. As she prepares for the 5 week long competition, she plans to practice upcycling and recycling initiatives to recreate pieces for the stage.

While the Miss Earth pageant is deeply vested in sustainability and fashion, the organization also encourages it’s contestants to take action on environmental issues beyond the pageant. Layanna has worked with various organizations throughout her reign as Miss Earth Canada including clothing drives, park cleanups and restorations, removing invasive species throughout Victoria’s parks, attended youth eco entrepreneurship festivals, helped plant over 300 trees and worked endlessly with youth using hands on eco education.

Robinson says pageantry fuels her desire to give back to her community. “It means more than winning a crown and a sash. This is an opportunity to continue spreading advocacy against domestic violence.” As for her humanitarian causes, Robinson offers free workshops online that educate youth about the early signs of domestic violence and what healthy relationships look like. “I can take this to an international level. This will continue educating youth and women about consent and how to take action”, she quoted.
