Miss Earth Malaysia 2020/2021 Dr. Nisha Thayananthan is working as one of the front liners for the ongoing battle against Covid-19 pandemic, is grateful for the covid19 vaccine as she mentioned that taking a vaccine with some minor side effects is a small price to pay in order to stay healthy in the long run.
The beauty queen who is preparing herself for representing Malaysia at Miss Earth 2021 along with working tirelessly as a frontliner has shared her experience with the battle of the pandemic. She stated, “It was tiring to be in the front line and wait for the next step in flattening the infection curve. I even had to undergo a 14-day self-quarantine after coming into close contact with someone infected. The thought that I was exposed and whether I would test positive was mental torture.”
Dr. Nisha is attached to the General Surgery Department at Putrajaya Hospital mentioned that medicine is her calling and that’s one of the reasons she has taken the challenge to not only prepare for the pageant but also to serve the people of her country in the times of crises. The beauty queen says that she has no regrets in choosing medicine as her profession and is very thankful to the people who have managed to develop the vaccine which is seen as the end to the pandemic soon.
The diva rose to fame when she won ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ award at Miss World Malaysia 2019 and constantly contributed to the humanitarian causes in the community. She was later crowned Miss Earth Malaysia 2020/2021 and earned the chance to represent Malaysia at Miss Earth 2021. “As Miss Earth Malaysia 2020/21, I would like to be more of an advocate of environmental issues, the harmful aspects of human activity on the biophysical environment maintaining the ecosystem. Nature is a richness of colours, forms and elements, and must co-exist by maintaining a balance”, she said after she was crowned. She is coming up with her own brand of biodegradable sanitary pads as a part of her advocacy.
Dr. Nisha had shared that "It is so challenging to be a doctor right now as it is stressful and emotionally difficult, but we are ready to serve the nation by any means. My colleagues at other COVID-19 centres are overwhelmed with patients. Some have not met their family members for a long time now and others have been quarantined due to respiratory symptoms. As a doctor, I solemnly promise that I will do the best of my ability serve humanity.”
The beauty queen is now vaccinated and believes that this has helped her to be more confident and assured towards her goal which is to serve the people of the community. She is very grateful for the government’s national crown pneumonia immunization plan and believes that this is the key to end the pandemic. “As a doctor and Malaysia, I call on the public to be vaccinate against the new crown so that our country can reach herd immunity goals faster.”
