Christie Refalo crowned as Miss Earth Malta 2017

Miss Malta 2016 pageant was held on 26th November 2016, and Christie Refalo was crowned as the winner, representing the province of Luqa. Christie defeated 28 other contestants to clinch the title. She was also awarded with the Special Titles of Miss Elegant and Miss Photogenic.

As per the new reports, the winner of Miss Malta will represent Malta at the Miss Earth pageant. So, Christie Refalo will represent Malta at the Miss Earth 2017 pageant. Christie is not new to the world of pageant and competed at Miss World Malta 2015 won by Katrina Pavia. In an interview by Comino Magazine, Christie said, "I was extreme happy that I was going to be part of this big contest in Malta. Besides, I already knew that this competition was going to be most probably my last one as the winning model to be the ambassador in Miss Earth has to be between the age of 18-26 years. That’s why I committed myself in everything that was part of it."

"We have a year full of plans with loads of activities so that on October 2017 I can represent my lovely country in the Philippines in Miss Earth the way we deserve," she added. Initially, the winner of Miss Malta used to represent Malta at the Miss World pageant and between 1968 and 2001, the winners used to represent Malta at Miss Universe pageants. From 2016, the winner of Malta will represent Malta at Miss Earth pageant.

Malta hasn’t had much success in the international pageants, with just 2 Top 15 placements at Miss World and Miss International pageants.
