At the conclusion of the grand finale of Miss Ghana 2017 held at the State Banquet Hall in Accra on 7th October 2017, Margaret Derry Mwintuur was crowned as Miss Ghana 2017. She will now represent Ghana in the Miss World 2018 pageant next year.
She succeeds Afua Asieduwaa Akrofi, Miss World Ghana 2016 and walked home with laurels for 'Miss Talent' and 'Beauty with a Purpose'. Afua Asieduwaa Akrofi is the representative of Ghana for Miss World 2017 and is set to compete in Miss World 2017 in China next month.
At the same event, Priscilla Nana Akua Gameli from the Eastern Region and Marigold Frimpong from Ashanti Region were declared as first and second runners-up respectively.
Winners of other special awards at the finale were -
Miss Top Model & Miss Fitness - Perpetual Amuadu Acquah (Central Region)
Miss Congeniality - Marigold Frimpong (Ashanti Region)
Miss Beauty Skin & Miss Photogenic - Priscilla Nana Akua Gameli (Eastern Region)
Miss Beach Beauty & Miss Eloquence - Millicent Dzifa Dzudzor (Western Region)
The finale was hosted by broadcaster Nathaniel Attoh and co-hosted by Selasi Kwawu and Eklu Patrick Amendah from Togo. The night also saw exciting performances from singer Sherifa Gunu, Saxophonist Steve Bedi and Amendzeba Nat Brew.
Ghana has never won Miss World title before. However, it has managed to reach the Top 20 stage several times before. Well, it would be interesting to see if Afua this year or Margaret next year can break that barrier and make their country proud.
