Post-Pageant analysis of Miss Grand International 2022

Miss Grand International 2022 was the 10th-anniversary edition of the Miss Grand International pageant which was held on 25th October 2022 at Sentul International Convention Center in Bogor Regency of West Java province, Indonesia. The grand celebration saw the crowning of Isabella Menin of Brazil as the new queen. She succeeds and was crowned by Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyrn Thúc Thùy Tiên of Vietnam.

Amidst a huge backdrop and well-lit stage, the sixty-eight contestants walked the stage at the start of the finale with Miss Grand International 2021 making a grand entrance on Madonna’s 4 Minutes. The contestants gave their country’s introduction one by one. The pageant was hosted by Thai television personality Matthew Deane.

After a small break, the host announced the first cut of the finale as Top 20 were announced. Along with the Top 20 announcement, the host also announced the winners of the Best in National Costume award. Best in Social Media award was then presented to the contestants of Czech Republic.

For the first time, the pageant also announced the Country Power of the Year Award which was won by Vietnam’s delegate as she advanced directly to the Top 20 after which the panel of jury for the finale was also announced. Needless to say, the pageant was held without any glitches.

The contestants who were eliminated then walked the stage in their sportswear as they strutted the stage on Fifth Harmony’s song ‘I’m in love with a monster’. Along with them, the Top 20 stunning ladies walked the stage in their pink costumes.

 

 

It was then time to announce the Top 10 delegates where Mauritius’ delegate made it to Top 10 directly by winning the Miss Popular vote. Along with her the rest of the Top 10 were announced. Philippines’ delegate did not make it to the Top 10 much to the disappointment of all the Filipino fans. After a short break, the show commenced as ‘Heal the World by Micheal Jackson’ played with messages of ‘Stop the war and violence’ as Miss Grand International’s theme.

While the eliminated contestants walked the stage in their evening gowns, the Top 10 walked on the stage in their Balinese costumes. The Top 10 also gave their speeches on ‘Stop the war and violence’ theme which has always been a segment of the pageant.

Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thúc Thùy Tiên of Vietnam walked the stage as the reigning queen for the last time. Also present at the finale were the former Miss Grand International queens who were a part of the pageant as their 10-year anniversary special. The President of MGI also joined the ladies on the stage and gave a short speech.

Two new special awards were also given to the national directors of the pageant – Golden Grand Award and Silver Grand Award. Henceforth, Top 5 were announced as Q/A round was held for these ladies. The section of the finale tested the communication skills and the presentational skills of the finalists.

All in all, the 10th anniversary of Miss Grand International was a star-studded affair with strong performances from the delegates and decent hosting by Indonesia. It was Brazil’s debut win at Miss Grand international.
