MGI caught in controversy after body shaming comments on Miss Universe

The newly crowned Miss Grand Thailand 2019 Coco Arayha was recently caught in a controversy as she put a now-deleted meme on her Instagram story comparing the body of the reigning Miss Grand International Clara Sosa and Miss Universe Catriona Gray and body shaming the latter. It is no news how popular Catriona is amongst the netizens and if there’s one thing that is not tolerated in the pageantry its body shaming beauty queens.

Earlier in July, after sharing the photo, Coco Arayha defended herself from the accusations saying, “I shared the photo of Clara because I’m jealous of her body and want it. I shared the truth and everyone hates me for it. Even when I upload a pretty picture of myself, there are a thousand angry comments. I shared the truth. I know she’s Miss Universe, but the picture just says it all.”

Miss Universe 2019 Catriona Gray also did not take it lying down as she gave her opinion on bullying and body shaming on twitter as she wrote, “It is never, ever okay to put someone down for the sake of expressing your opinion. With words come power and we should be using those words to build someone up and not pull them down. Obviously I stand firmly against any form of bullying and bashing – online and off. It is never, ever okay to put someone down for the sake of expressing your opinion.”

The controversy had laid down a little but then Nawat Itsaragrisil, the president of the Miss Grand organization, said that Coco’s comment was justified and reignited the whole debacle.
