The Miss Grand Myanmar organization has appointed Amara Shune Lei as their official representative for Miss Grand International 2021. She succeeds Miss Grand Myanmar 2020 Han Lay for the title and the opportunity to represent Myanmar at the international platform.
24 years-old Amara, stands 177 cm tall and works as a freelance professional model at Universal INT’L Model Agency. She started to learn hair and makeup professionally and started working to support her parents. She is an avid supporter of the ‘Save Myanmar’ protests against the country.
Not new to pageantry, Lei was crowned Miss Earth Myanmar 2020 and represented the country in the Miss Earth 2020 virtual pageant, where she finished among the Top 8 finalists at the end of the event and also won the Beach Wear competition from the Asia and Oceania region.
She has been highly appreciated for her strong performance and beautiful walk which impressed everyone present at the previous competitions. She has also learned Chinese and English languages to make her communication strong and impressive.
Last year, Han Lay represented Myanmar at Miss Grand International 2020 and took up the stage to speak up and ask for international help against the military actions in Myanmar. She was even issued an arrest warrant and is still being hosted by Thailand as it is unsafe for her to travel back home. The country’s situations haven’t gotten better and walking into her predecessor’s shoes, Amara has also been actively speaking up and against the military and government of her country, raising some of the most vulnerable issues.
Apart from the political perspective, Han Lay’s performance during the event last year was highly appreciated as she made it to the Top 21 cut. This year, Amara Shune Lei is definitely an ideal choice for the delegation and will definitely prove to be a strong contender making her country proud.
Miss Grand International 2021 will be the 9th edition of the Miss Grand International pageant, to be held on 4th December in Phuket, Thailand. Candidates from more than 60 countries and autonomous territories will compete for the title. At the end of the event, Miss Grand International 2020 Abena Akuaba Appiah of the United States will crown her successor.
