19 Jan 2021 | Angelique Reyes

Miss Peru Organization recently appointed Maricielo Gamarra as a replacement for Samantha Cortegana for the title of Miss Grand Peru 2020 and she will represent Peru at Miss Grand International 2020 on 27th March 2021 in Thailand. Samantha Cortegana was dethroned because the organization felt that she wasn’t prepared enough for representing the country at Miss Grand International 2020.

Maricielo is 25-years-old and stands 176 cm tall; has earned her degree in Communication Sciences at the University of Piura and has two post-graduate degrees in Digital Marketing and Soft Skills. She represented San Martín at Miss Peru 2020 and was one of the front runners for the title and is excited to take over the crown duties.

The diva is also the founder of "Peru without anemia"; a project that seeks to highlight the importance of adequate nutrition for the integral development of children from an early age. She is fond of Muay Thai and will use the platform to take her project to the masses. Along with her project, she would very much like to reactivate tourism, that has been put aside by the crisis. Talk to the municipalities of each province of the department and see how tourists can arrive. She would propose these actions to improve it economically.

Maricielo mentioned that her journey at Miss Peru 2020 was full of experiences, learning and a lot of resilience. The diva is beautiful, strong, and confident who feels assured that she will be able to perform her best at the competition. She impressed everyone with her confidence and beauty at Miss Peru 2020 and is expected to do the same at Miss Grand International 2020. In one of her interviews, she had explained that she has learned not to seek validation from other people and only listen to where your heart takes you.

The diva was asked about a life lesson she’d like to share, “'I am first in my life', you achieve a connection with yourself, an emotional relief. I am the owner of my own decisions. That is my life lesson,” she explained. She also shared that the reason she participated at beauty pageants was the fact that she will be able to achieve social changes and the zeal to make a change in the community is something that attracted her towards beauty pageants. She was also motivated by friends and family who believed that she can achieve so much more in life.

Maricielo also believes that people should change their perspective towards beauty pageant as it is not just a competition that shows off women on-stage but it gives them power to make a change in the society. She is strong, beautiful, and has started to prepare for the competition where she is expected to make the people of Peru proud.

Congratulations!
